Helping Feed Our Community

Our Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG)

The Rise Church BHAG: End hunger and food insecurity in our neighborhood. This is the overarching goal around which we organize congregational efforts, and give our talents, time and energy.

Currently we have: a crop table, community gardens, beans/oil/rice collection for Western Farm Workers, meals for Family Promise, our Tigard Food Project (part of The Neighborhood Food Program), and The Great Potato Project. Read more below.

The Great Potato Project

Rise members, friends and neighbors combine grow bags, dirt, and seed potatoes at home, to produce fresh grown potatoes that are then donated to area food banks. Last year we harvested around 900 pounds of spuds. This year, we’re aiming for a ton.

For more information or if you would like to participate, contact Tom Cronkrite.

Tigard Food Project

On the second Sunday of even numbered months, Rise members, friends and neighbors deliver their reusable green bag to the church filled with non-perishable food items. The food is weighed and then distributed to area food banks.

If you want to be a Food Donor, collect non-perishable food on an ongoing basis, an item or 2 every trip to the grocery store. Then store that food at home until the Tigard Food Project Sunday.

Packed with Pride

Tigard Tualatin Community Schools operate a food program for students and families. We love to support missions efforts started by our wider community and large part of our Tigard Food Project donations go toward PWP.

Rise Community Garden

Located on the east side of Rise Church, sixteen raised garden beds produce all kinds of fresh produce. As the gardens are harvested, produce is distributed for free each Sunday on the Rise Church crop table.

Western Farm Workers

We work with this organization that provides support for local, mostly Hispanic, low income, hardworking families in Washington County.

In addition to monetary support, in the winter we sponsor a “rice, beans, and oil” food drive to assist with food staples during this lowest income time of year.

Holiday Mission Marketplace

In December, fair trade items including chocolate and Christmas decorations are offered for sale. We also offer an alternative gift catalog of things for people in dire need, such as a flock of chicks, a goat, or a box of food. You can choose your mission project and make it a holiday gift for your friend or loved one. All proceeds go toward our mission programs.

Crop Table

Open Saturday mornings, June through December, the Rise Community Crop Table is stocked by our very own Community Gardens, by generous donations from the Tigard Grange Community Food Project and our congregation. Neighbors regularly stop by to pick up fresh food and many also share their produce. We would always love more volunteer help with this project! Contact Joanne Shipley if you're able to lend a hand.

Union Gospel Life Change for Women and Their Children

This organization provides a place where women can recover from the ill effects of alcohol and drugs, while still being with their children.

Our Men’s Bible Study contributes and delivers milk monthly.

Helping Shelter Our Community

Family Promise

Rise Church has been a partner church in Family Promise of Tualatin Valley since 2018. Family Promise is a network of religious and civic organizations that provide shelter, meals, resource assistance and a path to sustainable housing for local homeless families. They also assist families to stay in housing when they are on the verge of losing it.

Currently, Rise Church's main role is to fill Family Promise's food pantry with healthy food, three to four times each year. Church members donate the food based on requested items. The chef of Family Promise also regularly uses the Rise kitchen to prepare meals for the families.  Volunteer opportunities are always available at Family Promise including assistance with their afterschool programs, bingo nights, staffing the food pantry and assisting the chef prepare hot meals.

Family Promise recently purchased a motel in Tigard and is in the process of converting it to temporary housing where families can live while they receive support services and assistance in finding employment and permanent housing. If you would like to be a part of this valuable mission, contact  patrica.saier@gmail.com or jhibbs1947@comcast.net.

Helping the Houseless Community

As Washington County has centralized shelter services, Rise Church no longer offers an overnight shelter after two decades of providing this service. However, being a friend to our houseless neighbors remains a deep commitment of Rise Church. We continue to directly support Family Promise of Tualatin Valley and their ongoing effort to end the cycle of homelessness. Through our connection with Just Compassion, we provide regular outreach meals to the houseless in our community and we continue to advocate for the needs of the houseless in our community.

Helping Bring Medical Relief to Our Community

Red Cross Blood Drive

We will provide the facility and volunteers for the local blood drive when needed.

Recovery Center

This organization's mission is to provide compassionate care to people whose health and quality of life are compromised by alcohol, drugs, and mental health challenges. We provide a collection point for items the residents may need, but we also are a welcoming congregation where we worship, eat and serve together. Donations can be left at the church office.

Sharing the Love of God Beyond Our Community

In Our World-Missionary Support we stay connected to an extensive network of missionaries who help us understand the needs of those in communities around the world. Specifically, Rise supports Eliane Menezes in her work in Guatemala and Dr. Robert Gamble's work with This Child Here in Ukraine.
